Boris is a native Russian speaker from Kiev, Ukraine. He began his teaching career in Moscow after receiving his MA from the Moscow Teachers Training State University in physics and astronomy. He has more than 20 years of experience teaching math and science to students in many different settings both in Russia and the United States. Before he emigrated to the United States in 1992, he was one of the coordinators of the advanced math and physics program at secondary school #235 in Moscow. In the US, Boris worked as a computer programmer, but continued conducting math circles for his daughters, Yulia and Sasha (both Golden Key Russian School math teachers), and their friends before returning back to teaching high school in 2003.
Today, Boris teaches AP Physics, AP Calculus and honors astronomy at Central High School in Philadelphia - a top public high school in the state - where he has been a member of the Mentally Gifted Department since 2003. Boris is a true enthusiast of math and science. In addition to teaching the most challenging math and science classes at Central and achieving exceptional test results, he also sponsors the math club and involves Central’s gifted math students in many state and national level math competitions. He teaches science at GKRS within the Hand-On Exploration program.
