School Founder, Co-Owner and Math and Russian Teacher
A native of Moscow, Russia, Yulia moved to the US with her family when she was in elementary school. She grew up in the Philadelphia area and went to Central High School. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Huntsman Program at the University of Pennsylvania and holds a BS in Economics from the Wharton School, and a BA in International Studies and French from the Penn’s College of Arts and Sciences. Yulia also holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
While much of Yulia’s formal professional experience comes from the corporate world (she has worked as a strategy and organization consultant for the Boston Consulting Group in Boston and for Vanguard in the Philadelphia area), her true passion has always been in teaching. Her diverse teaching experiences, ranging from mentoring elementary school students in West Philadelphia public schools, to being a Kindergarten camp counselor, to conducting monthly “fun math” activities as a volunteer teacher at her son's daycare, prepared her well for setting up a school of her own, the Golden Key Russian School. Since the inception of the school, Yulia has found unique and creative ways to teach math to children and has brought her passion for Russian and Math to her students. Yulia also teaches Russian Language and Literature.
Yulia has two boys, Ari and Ben, who both attend the Golden Key Russian School. She resides with her family and two cats in Wayne, PA. One of her main objectives in setting up Golden Key was to help her own children and children of other Russian immigrants to become bilingual – like she is herself – and reap the benefits of growing up in a multi-language environment.
